KIRKUS Starred Review
The Light in the Lake has received its first trade review, and it’s a star from Kirkus! Kirkus awards stars to “books of exceptional merit”, and I’m absolutely thrilled that my book received this honor.
This insightful review acknowledges the complexity of the issues in Addie’s story: “Without a villain to blame or superhero offering easy solutions, the book offers appealing characters whose opposing interests embody what’s at stake. Compassionately told, this compelling debut brings to life conservation issues and choices young readers will confront as adults.”
Reviews can be harrowing for authors. True confession: I’ve had nightmares about getting bad ones, and I know at some point I will. But right now, I’m so glad that my book has resonated with some readers. It’s really what every writer wants.
